A Comprehensive 2019 Guide to the Website Redesign Process

How to Rebrand Your Business Like A Boss
There are so many different reasons why a small business owner may decide to rebrand a website: poor conversions and/or sales, confusing navigation or an outdated design, to name a few.
However, as I mentioned in my previous blog The Right Reasons for Rebranding Your Business Logo, it's essential to have strong reasoning, logic and stats behind rebranding your business.
For example, are poor conversions due to an ineffective design or a glitchy shopping cart?
Is your website truly outdated or are you just bored of the colour scheme?
This guide will help you first understand whether or not you need to reinvent your business, and if you do, how to rebrand your website in the most effective way possible.
I'm going to share a personal example for this article. We are rebranding our website at the moment. We decided this was a good idea because:
• We're now also targeting new entrepreneurs coming from the corporate world as well as wanting to appeal to established entrepreneurs who are ready to up-level their business.
• It was time to update how we present our services on our home page. We didn't feel that we were presenting our benefits clearly enough in some areas.
• Some of the features and functionality of our existing site were breaking down. It was time to upgrade and use newer technology to showcase our offerings.
• We've had some confusion around the penguin logo. Some people see a woman's hair or aren't quite clear on what it is.
Our first step in the re-branding process was to give our logo an update.
In the coming weeks we'll be revealing our new website and I can't wait for the big reveal! And before you jump into the redesign process, first determine if this is something that's truly needed as explained next.
Part 1: Is It Time to Reinvent Your Business?
You'll have to take a good, hard look at your online presence. You need to ask yourself the following questions, but it also helps to have outside opinions from clients, focus groups and social media followers-you may not have the most objective opinion.
1. Am I targeting a new type of audience/client?
2. Is the site well-optimized for mobile? According to Statista, over 52% of web traffic now happens on a mobile device. If your online store is slow or looks terrible on a smartphone, you have a lot to lose. The best way to check if this stat is accurate for you is to check your Google Analytics.
3. Have my products or services drastically changed?
4. Is my bounce rate high? Google defines bounce rate by how many users leave the page they entered on, without interacting with anything. According to a study by RocketFuel, average bounce rates are between 26% and 70% for most websites.
Now, if your bounce rate is high on a Contact Us page, where a customer simply wants your contact info and leaves, that's one thing. But if it's high on pages that you want people to stay on and interact with, it's time to do a deep dive as to why potential customers aren't sticking around.
5. Am I getting complaints about the design or user experience?
6. Does the design look outdated? The look and feel of website design can change quickly and often dramatically from one year to the next. Sites that were designed 5 years ago can almost be guaranteed they look out of date now.
If the name "Tupperware" conjures up images of avocado-coloured plastic and 80s neighbourhood parties, you're not alone. Tupperware struggled to appeal to a modern audience but have done so by modernizing everything from their logo to their Pinterest-style imagery.
Part 2: The Reinvention
If you've decided to embark on the website redesign process, you're in for an exciting and challenging ride! Here are 9 ways to accomplish your goals in the most user-friendly way possible.
1. Complete a competitive analysis.
This is a crucial step in many marketing and branding processes. You should have done one when you were creating your company.
This time look at how fast your competitors' website load, or how user friendly their navigation is. By exploring what you're up against, you can do things better when you're rebranding your business.
2. Revisit your values and brand positioning.
Before hiring a web designer, I highly recommend revisiting your business values and brand positioning. Be clear on why you're in business in the first place, your values and your mission.
Also give a lot of consideration to the impression you want your website visitors to receive the moment they land on your site. How do you want your business to be perceived as? What brand personality do you want to portray? What values do you want to be known for?
By having a clear understanding of these types of branding questions, you will now have a clear brand guide for your web designer to follow.
Here's a few resources that will help you in this process:

3. Define your goals.
Rebranding your business online isn't just about the look and feel. You want to improve upon your customer experience.
Let's say you want to collect more email addresses. You'll need to decide where to place your eNewsletter signup box or giveaway offer to compel visitors to give you their info.
If your goal is to convert a new type of client, you'll need to think about the calls-to-action that will resonate best with them.
Whatever your goals are, they should be focused on your customers' needs, not your own!
4. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
We can get so caught up in refreshing and revamping that we go too far. If you've received widespread attention and/or accolades for your business logo, why would you change it?
If a certain article in your blog gets a lot of organic traffic, don't take it down just because you are tired of it or want to focus on a new audience. It's just as important to know what not to change.
Always have your target audience in mind. What are they finding useful and informative that helps them make a decision on whether to do business with you? It's not about you and your personal preferences. It's about them and what they need from you.
5. Create a design and content plan.
Depending on your target audience, brand positioning and goals, you may be able to repurpose existing marketing collateral, or you may need to start from scratch.
Go over all of your design and copy elements before the website redesign process so you have an accurate inventory of what you need to create.
6. Build a wireframe and mock-up.
A wireframe is a layout that shows what elements will be on a web page. You don't just start creating menus, slapping on images and putting in links on a live page. You need to plan and visualize before you rebrand your website, so users have the best experience possible.
A mock-up is also a visual representation that includes design and copy elements, although copy can be demonstrated with a placeholder, as we've done here. We're still working on the messaging in this section, but we wanted to plan out where it would go.
7. Incorporate voice search into your SEO plan.
It's not enough to focus solely on copy anymore. People want instant solutions when they're searching for something online.
As you reinvent your business, you should be thinking of ways to optimize your website for voice search in addition to what people are typing into the search box.
Many consumers already use it to find what they're lookinghttps://ezinearticles.com/?A-Comprehensive-2019-Guide-to-the-Website-Redesign-Process&id=10120383 for and according to ComScore, 50% of searches will be performed this way by 2020.
Learn more about voice search here.
8. Make mobile a top priority.
A big part of the website redesign process is ensuring your website looks great on any device, from desktops to smartphones. Images and font sizes may look perfect on your computer but break or look crowded on a phone screen.
Always optimize and test for mobile devices while you rebrand your website.
9. Hire a professional company to help.
Unless you're a marketing guru, rebranding your business isn't a DIY project. There are too many important branding, programming and implementation elements at stake.
You should consider hiring a full-service professional web design and development company.
The website redesign process is an iterative one. You're not going to nail it with one version.
By planning ahead and hiring the right people to get the job done, you'll end up with a beautiful and functional online presence you'll be proud to share with the world.

How To Build Powerful Back-Links

Exactly what are back-links?
Back-links are known for links that link straight to your web site. It's regarded as, for search engines, a really significant ranking component. These types of back-links are rated based upon the authority of the web page that links to your internet site, so the better the original ranking web page the better the organic visitors you'll acquire. Due to the fact you wish to keep track of your Google rankings, back-linking is a must constructor for every web page you have. When crawling, what Google, and some other search engines, do is evaluate precisely how your pages are linked and by which methods. Back-links are not the only search engine ranking aspect, although it's for certain the most crucial one.
Hard to find all these back-links.
Great quality back-links are not simple to acquire, nevertheless truth is they shouldn't be. There are various smart methods to get these kind of hyperlinks, you can easily really obtain these links from web sites with high authority. I'm going to give you several of these kinds of methods:
1) The broken link method.
This strategy is quite great, due to the fact it's outstanding to produce one way back-links. This is just how it functions: you contact the webmaster of a web site just where you discovered a broken link and report the problem. You propose him/her other associated sites to change that broken link. The web page you advise is obviously yours. The website owner will sense they have to pay you the favor, therefore the opportunity to find that hyperlink is very high. The technique to get these broken links is the following:
You should locate related web sites in the market and that includes resources pages. You can accomplish this by making use of Google queries, right here are a few good examples:
your keyword + links.
your keywords + resources.
keywords inurl:links.
To demonstrate this, I can easily display you a particular example: If I'm searching for 'internet marketing' internet sites, I employ this Google query: internet marketing + links. Right now, you go and pay a visit to the webpages of the search result and discover all those broken links within this pages. An excellent and quick approach to get those broken links is by utilizing the Google Chrome plugin 'Check my Links'.
As soon as you get these kinds of broken links, communicate with the web site owner in a pleasant way. Make sure to introduce yourself and be courteous. Notify this site owner that one of his/her resources links are broken, ensure you point out the exact URL of the broken link. Right now, it's the instant to propose an alternative for this link, obviously you advise your internet site. This technique generally functions, yet not really always, the website owner can definitely deny your recommendation.
2) Info-graphics.
This procedure is known as one of the most applied approach to generate traffic to your personal site and creating back-links. Info-graphics could be extremely simple to understand by site visitors and they're likewise really easy to share. The cause of this, is that people want graphic data, therefore the need of these sort of graphics is growing. It's quite essential to be cautious when choosing your info-graphic. The most significant function of an info-graphic is to inform a story to your target audience, so the more exclusive the info-graphic the much better. To help yourself in the selection of the info-graphic, study regarding the trends people are pursuing these days, according to this statistic data, create your info-graphics. If you don't have graphic abilities, you can certainly employ someone.
These days, there's an extremely incorrect concept regarding the cost of info-graphics. A few folks believe they're too costly to invest in. Truth is, that's not necessary the situation. A really great info-graphic can easily cost you between $150 to $300. You may very easily acquire 10 back-links because of that info-graphic. So essentially, you're paying $15 per link. Right now do the maths for 5 back-links, it's $30 per link right? That could be quite inexpensive, if your info-graphics is positioned in the correct location. If it goes viral the profit is actually larger.
There are many places wherever you can certainly locate designers to employ for the development of your info-graphics. 2 popular ones are Dribble and Fiver. Make use of the search filter these sites supply and put 'info-graphics' in the search box. Search all the results and whenever you discover a very good artist click on "hire me", make contact with him/her and describe the form of info-graphic you require. If you make use of Fiver the price of the info-graphic can easily be way even less expensive of that $150 I pointed out before.
When you have your info-graphic completely ready, you must setup it so others may share it. You can certainly work with a tool to produce an embed code. A great one is Siege Media generator. As soon as you have every thing all set, it's time to disperse it. You do this by posting your info-graphic to unique info-graphic directories. There are a lot of them these days, just Google them.
The last step is to get in touch with people who frequently link to info-graphics. You can easily ask them to share them on social media platform and to provide you comments. In no way request a back-link immediately, it's regarded as impolite, just in case they like your info-graphic, they will link without you requesting them.
3) Guest articles.
Guest blogging is recognized as one the ideal methods to achieve visitors to your web site. After you distribute an excellent amount of very good quality articles in well-known sites, you'll acquire your content material read by many fascinated individuals who will certainly go to your Internet site if they like your content material. Your Cheat Sheet to Choose a Domain Name for Your Website

We take care of ample of things while developing a new website but seldom do we care about the domain name disciplines. Domain names often act as a juggernaut when it comes to creating an influence over click-through-rate, type-in traffic, branding, developing trust, mouth publicity, offline advertising and grabbing more attention in the SERP's.
So from every aspect, we need to make sure that the domain name is sending the right signals in order to get the most value. Here are the top credible points to help you craft the right domain name.
1. Pick The Right Extension - While the most popular extension is.com but that doesn't mean one should quickly opt for without acknowledging the following factors:
  • The Purpose of Website: If it is a business-oriented site then a.com or.biz could be worthwhile. But contrarily if it is meant for the organization then.org is the most viable option. Consequently, choose a TLD that keeps a tight relation with your domain.
  • Targeting a local area: If the domain is targeting the local geographical area then consider the SEO first. There are around 200 different country code TLDs, pick the one that matches the users' website country code.
But if the target is global with an aim to rank better on search engines than.com is the most preferable option. Other than that here are some top extensions that can be used as per their usage:
2. Keep It Short and Intuitive - Choose a domain name that is uncomplicated, short, and easily relatable with your brand. It should be easy to pronounce and clearly informative and imply what your business is all about.
3. Use Broad Keyword - In 2019, it is strictly NO to use keyword rich words in the domain name as Google is biasing away from exact match and partial match domains. E.g. do not go for websitedevelopment (dot) com or iosdevelopers (dot) com instead choose a brand name that umbrellas your work. Think like webnerds (dot) com, appgeeks (dot) com. More condensed can be inventing your own unique brand name like amazon (dot) com, Codiant (dot) com etc.
4. Avoid number and hyphens - Don't mislead your audience with the spelling confusion. The people who hear a number in your domain name may type it numerically or in characters. Still if you wish to include number you can buy both variations (numerical and character) and redirect it to the right one.
5. Be Careful Taking Trademarks - Do research your domain name before you finalize it. It should not infringe any of your competitors' trademarks. Otherwise, you may be succumbed to legal actions, in worst cases.
6. Don't Get Late - Fortunately, if you get the desirable domain name available act fast and register it as soon as possible since domain name sells quickly.
Hope this article carves out an effective strategy for choosing a winning domain name. If you're still perplexed and running out of ideas for choosing one then you can also seek the help from the website development company you have hired for your dream project.
